The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta is organized by the St Maarten Yacht Club Regatta Foundation in coorporation with Title Sponsor Heineken and owned by the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. It’s a nonprofit organization, focusing on promoting sailing in St. Maarten, and promoting the island of St. Maarten as a destination.
The daily operations are done by the Regatta Office, which consists of the Regatta Director, Assistant Director and Regatta Assistant (intern). However, far more people are involved, of which all volunteers.
The Race Committee consists of a well-motivated group of people who put together the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions and ensures that everything on the water will be organized well.
During the months leading up to the regatta and during the event itself 150 volunteers are needed in order to make the event run smoothly. These volunteers work all different kinds of jobs, on the water running the starts and finishes, running the water taxi service, but there are also many volunteers working on shore, for registration, running the protest room and many other jobs. Young and old, every nationality, it doesn’t matter, everyone can contribute.
The event wouldn’t exist without the help of volunteers. Some have been helping us for many years, others come to St. Maarten on vacation, just to help us with the preparations and others are new to the event. So every year we are looking for motivated, enthusiastic volunteers to join our team to make this event a success. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please do let us know!
