Organizers are calling on all St. Maarten children to get creative. The contest is open for all children between 4-18 years old. Contestants are divided in five age groups and each group has three different assignments to choose from. After the assignments are handed in at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club or at one of the two Van Dorp locations, a team of artists will judge all the artworks. First, second and third prize winners in each group will be rewarded with prizes sponsored by local businesses.Assignment packages are now available at all schools on the Dutch side, at both Van Dorp locations and at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. The packages can be sent digitally if desired. Assignments vary from making a painting or creating a mask to making a driftwood fish.
There will also be a special group assignment this year. Maxim van den Pol, organizer of the Regatta Art Competition explains: “You can sign up for this assignment with your whole class or with a group. After signing up, an 8x4ft plywood board will be delivered to your location. The goal of the assignment is to display the St. Maarten Regatta on the board without the use of the exact words. The created artworks will be used as decoration during the actual St. Maarten Regatta. The winner will win a prize for his entire group. To sign up, just send an email to: regatta2@heinekenregatta.com.”
Participants in the Regatta Art Competition can win a variety of prizes. “It is great to see so many local businesses willing to offer all these prizes for the competition. Without them this event would simply not be possible.”, says Maxim. This year’s prizes are sponsored by Domino’s, Intertoys, Nature Foundation, Kooyman BV, Random Wind, Trisport, Funtopia, Shipwreck Shops, the Scuba Shop, Prime, the Carousel, Ocean Explorer, Learn 2 Paddle, Sea Fun SXM, Seaside Nature Park and Van Dorp.
Organizers are excited to see this year’s participation in the Art Competition. “Last year we had some very creative artworks. I’m really curious to see what the children come up with this year. Be creative and hopefully we’ll see you at the prize giving!’’, concludes Maxim.

Deadline assignments: The pieces of art must be handed in before Friday February 2nd at both Van Dorp locations or at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
Prize giving ceremony: Sunday February 11th – 3 PM sharp at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
