The unique sounds of Kuenta i Tambu will electrify the air during the 36th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. This upbeat band is slated to be the headliner for the opening night party “Green Energy”, to be held on Thursday March 3rd, 2016. The band, originating both in body and in sound, comes from the island of Curacao. Their self described music called “Tambutronic” leaves you energized and wanting for more.
The group was originally founded in 2005 by Roël Calister, a Curacao born percussionist. The band initially played acoustic traditional music up until 2010 when they started experimenting with beats and electronics, launching the birth of “Tambutronics”. So far the group has introduced “Tambutronics” to several continents and in 2010 added Diamanta to the band as a singer, taking them to a five piece group.
The blend of upbeat club mixes and traditional tambú music of Curacao is what makes this group and their music so unique. The band defines “Tambutronics” as where Curacao’s past dances with its future and takes on the world. Refreshing beats and live percussions allow for a nonstop upbeat and musical ride that will get your regatta vibes flowing. The performance of Kuent i Tambu is a first for the regatta and organizers are excited to bring such a diverse group to the island.
“What a great night this will be! A high-energy, fun-filled experience to kick off four nights of great Heineken parties! K.I.T. will bring an energy to the night that will you wanting more. We have such a great lineup for the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta this year, I’m extremely excited!” commented John Leone, Commercial Director at International Liquors & Tobacco, distributors of Heineken on St. Maarten.
The band’s latest EP “Muchu Danki” is laced with energetic, upbeat tracks and offers a variety of songs, from laid back Carnival tracks like “Where to Go” to blends of old and new with their song “Peace of Mind”. Regardless of your favourite, their songs will envelop and transport you to a distinct “Caribbean” state of mind.
“We’re stoked about our performance at the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. Playing for our own Caribbean people is one of the most exciting things ever!” stated Roel Calister from Kuenta i Tambu. “This is the first time for Kuenta i Tambu, but I’ve been to the regatta a couple of years ago as a member of Orange Grove (I used to be the drummer) and I promised myself one thing, that I would be back! The crowd is going to hear pumpin’ beats, people are going to go wild: Carnival to the max!”
