Our summer tour 2018 started with the International Regatta Croatia powered by Heineken. It is nice to see “old friends” from last year and enjoy Croatian waters again. Our preparations started in Austria where the boat was stored in an old airplane hangar.  Of course, we found spider nets on her so it was time for a wash polish to wake her up!
The road trip from Austria to Split was great; wonderful roads, picturesque stops, the Krka Waterfalls, mountain sceneries and sea side cliffs.
The International Regatta Croatia is a two-day Regatta with 3 stops in Split, Brac and Solta. Split is a great city which has developed towards the needs of tourists. It changed from a place to stop, to an actual destination. Our Melges 24 took first preparations in Marina Kastela Yard. It was hot, but not too hot to stop us from all necessary preparations. It was hard to watch people passing by with beach towels heading for swim while we were under the boat polishing our hull #seriousfun. Luckily the friendly faces, a nice BBQ, flower necklaces and our St. Maarten Heineken Regatta Caribbean party in the night made it all more than worth it!
Sebastian Levstik, the organizer of the event, called me on the stage where I got the opportunity to introduce the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta to all participants, to invite them to our Caribbean Regatta in March, 2019!
The evening was pleasant with music,  Heineken draft beers and sailors. The next morning our skipper briefing started at 10AM, the first start was supposed to be at 12PM, but because of changing wind directions the start line moved towards the island of Brac.
The next morning we started our second and third leg towards the island of Solta. The leg was cut in two with a stopover and new start. It weren’t the best circumstances for us; 20 knots wind on the nose, with not enough weight on the rail. Despite all we managed to finish without breaking anything. We finished in the middle of the fleet, which was fine considering the conditions and size of the boat. Tired, but happy we enjoyed this magnificent sailing spot #serioussailing.
The last stop and final party took us back to Maslinica. The overall winner received a free entry fee for the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta and Heineken Regatta –  Gill Technical gear!
Our next stop will be in Mali Losinj, also known ‘Heaven on earth’. Until then stay tuned!
Cheers, Sabine and Ben
