Motorworld signed on as a sponsor for the 39th edition of the Regatta.
In an effort towards the event’s “Green” initiatives, part of the proceeds of the raffle will go towards sustainability efforts for the island. The St Maarten Heineken Regatta, working in collaboration with the Rotary Club of St Maarten, Rotary Mid Isle, and Motorworld, will sell raffle tickets to raise funds for a Beach Cleaning vehicle, an initiative launched last year by the Rotary.
The Sponsor Party was well attended welcoming over 100 guests. This annual event serves as a moment to celebrate the support of all the sponsors and supporters of the upcoming St Maarten Heineken Regatta. This year’s event was hosted at the Motorworld Showroom, the perfect setting to announce the new partnership and to announce the raffle of the 2019 Hyundai Creta.
“Motorworld is extremely proud to partner with the St Maarten Heineken Regatta to host the 39th edition of the Regatta. The Regatta has long been a major contributor to our local tourism-based economy, which is essential for our island’s sustainability. The added effort to raise funds to ensure that our beaches are kept clean, showcases our joint interest in the quality of our natural environment. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we agreed to sponsor a New 2019 Fully-Loaded Hyundai Creta as the grand prize for the raffle. With the raffle funds going towards a great cause, this is the type of “Serious Fun” that we truly enjoy!,” says Tariq Amjad, Managing Director, Motorworld Group of Companies.
Raffle tickets can be purchased for $10 per ticket at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, Motorworld, Island 92 and at Rotary events. Part of the proceeds will go towards the Beach Cleaner, an effort launched last year by the Rotary Organization. The groups have agreed to collaborate on this project to raise enough funds for the cleaning unit to be purchased and put into commission.
“The Beach Cleaner Project is an amazing collaboration of Many organizations working together for a common goal; to make St. Maarten a better and more sustainable place to live and visit. The funds raised from the raffle of the Hyundai (Model) will Be put towards a beach cleaner that the island so very much needs. The Rotary Club of St. Maarten and SHTA have already raised approximately $100,000 from various fundraising activities and disaster grants. We’re almost there! With a successful car raffle we will have then raised enough to get the beach Cleaner purchased and operational. This will no doubt return and maintain our beaches to their pristine shape and also address the Sargasso Seaweed and litter/debris challenges. On behalf of the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten and Rotary Club Mid Isle, we would like to thank the organizers, partners, and the general public who buys a $10 ticket for helping make this beach Cleaner a reality.” Said John Caputo, the President of the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten.
The Beach Cleaner can be considered a tourist infrastructure and environmental improvement for the long-term betterment of the island. It cleans daily or weekly litter, and of course the Sargassum seaweed that has become such a nuisance washing up on our shores.
Tickets will be sold leading up to and throughout the Regatta. The winner will be announced after prize giving on Sunday March 3rd, 2019. For more information about the raffle visit www.heinekenregatta.com
