St. Maarten Regatta organizers have announced the 5th edition of the Regatta Beach Clean-Up, to be held Saturday, January 14th from 9 AM until 1 PM at Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Bay. The clean-up is geared to create awareness amongst the island’s youth with regard to the impact of throwing waste into the sea by cleaning one of the more polluted beaches on the island in a fun and competitive way for children from 5 to 18 years old.

The morning starts with a 30-minute beach clean-up, where teams of three will collect as much garbage as possible and the winning team will get a Rhino Safari sponsored prize. The Nature Foundation will then do a quiz about the effects of pollution on marine life where the winning team will receive a prize sponsored by Tri Sports. The day ends with fun sports activities led by LAB Sports Academy, where the winning group will win the ‘Swing into Sunset’ Cruise provided by Random Wind. Ice cold Fiji Water will be on hand to keep everyone hydrated.

‘’With all these great activities, the Beach Clean-Up is a fun way for kids to meet new children, learn new things, get their community service hours and win great prizes!’’ says organizer Sacha van der Wouden. “I can’t wait to see how many kids will show up and the amount of garbage we will collect this Saturday; it will definitely be a day to remember!”

Overall winner’s prizes will be provided by Divico, Funtopia, Intertoys, Ocean Explorers, the Scuba Shop, Van Dorp and West Indies Sports Parks.
